My Valentine!

Okay, so this is the first Valentine’s Day that I haven’t had a valentine since 5th grade. I know, I know, in 5th grade I didn’t know what a valentine really was. What I did know was there was a cute boy who was giving me candy. Any cute guy who wants to give me candy because of a holiday can be my valentine. I always had one, even if I was single, but not this year. There was no cute guy here to give me flowers, candy, a bear, or even a card. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m embracing this single thing, but when I see all the other girls getting flowers and candy and teddy bears it makes me feel lonely. I didn’t sit in my room and mope around today because where is the fun in that. It snowed today, and that’s a big deal in Arkansas. I had a Valentine’s Day Party with some girls on my floor and we watched the snow fall and talked about boys. I went to the store with my best friend and of course we went to Krispy Kreme (my newest addiction) to indulge is some heart shaped doughnuts. It was a good day, but I can’t help but think why they had to create a holiday to celebrate couples. Isn’t that what anniversaries are for? I mean all the single people in the world don’t need to be reminded that they are single. I’m sure they know and are reminded of it all the time anyway, so why shove it in their face by making a national holiday of it? While we were at the store my friend made a good point. They call it a Hallmark holiday because it was created by the greeting card industry, but he believes that it should be a Wal-Mart holiday because truth be told…that’s where most people get their flowers, candies, cards, and balloons. I totally agree with him on this (although this friend and I agree on most everything.) Should couples really have a day where they are obligated to buy each other presents…shouldn’t they do that all the time, not just one day a year?
